This little piece of software is to correct a problem with Windows Media Player for the pocket pc, where the the files are added to a playlist in the order they're discovered (probably the order in which they appear in the FAT). This software is available for both Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003.
Download the appropriate file below and copy it to somewhere on your device. If you choose to place it in "\Windows\Start Menu" then you won't need to then create a start menu short-cut.

AlphaASX for Windows Mobile 2003
To operate the software, select if you want to sort your selected file and overwrite it or if you want to create a new file with the sorted items. Depending on this selection, you'll get one or two file dialogs asking to Open the source and Save the destination files. Whether or not you choose overwrite your file you'll still need to select this file again in Media player so that the changes can take effect.
Known Issues:
Figure out why the file is 150kb. It works and I'm not short of space so this isn't a priority.
I think there's a debug message showing how many iterations were performed during the sort operation. The application still works so this isn't a big problem either, plus it's an indication of how non-alphabetical your list really was. (Sometimes WMP re-sorts some items in the list too).
There's no option to select how you'd like your file sorted. The only technique available is Alphabetical.
Other stuff:
Why? - I created this software because my files, of the format "album name - nn - song title" were not being added to the playlist in any sort of order. Now at least I can sort them. If you have another way to sort the files (like say, random) then contact me and I'll try and include it.
Is it free? - Yep, it's free. I recommend that you direct people to this website to obtain a copy, just in case I fix some bugs or add some features.
Does it require any special files - Hopefully not. All you need is Pocket PC 2002 or Windows Mobile 2003. In addition, no configuration files or registry keys are created.
I've got a million dollars to give you in support of this software - Yeah right! I can dream though...
There's a feature I'd just love to have / it doesn't work / thanks - Send me an email software at swanny dot net dot nz (replace ats and dots as appropriate).
